Film Florida Happenings

The Film Florida Annual Meeting, held May 6–7, 2025, in Destin, FL, brought together industry leaders, creatives, and advocates from across the state for two days of strategic planning, committee sessions, and collaboration. The event gathered professionals from fourteen counties across Florida. A key highlight from the meeting was the re-election of Sandy Lighterman, Film Commissioner for Broward County (Film Lauderdale), as President of Film Florida. Alongside her, the 2025–2026 Film Florida Board of Directors and alternate board members were announced, marking the beginning of a new term focused on continued advocacy, growth, and support for Florida’s film, television, and digital media industries.

Sabine Krausch was also in attendance and was appointed Vice Chair of the Industry and Association Council. Her presence reinforced TDA’s commitment to staying connected at the heart of the state’s entertainment ecosystem. From leadership updates to engaged dialogue, the Annual Meeting highlighted the strength and momentum of Florida’s screen industry—and the value of being part of a united, forward-thinking community.

Summer Homework for Talent: Refresh, Reboot, and Get Ready to Book!

While school might be out for summer, the work doesn’t stop for actors and models serious about landing their next role. Call it summer homework, talent edition! This season is the perfect time to hit reset, update your materials, and set yourself up for success in the second half of the year.

Refresh Those Headshots
If your look has changed, your hair’s different, or your photos just aren’t booking the way they used to—now’s the time to schedule a shoot. Casting directors rely on current images, and fresh headshots can make all the difference.

Update Reels and Resumes

Did you work on something amazing this spring? Don’t let that go unnoticed. Add new credits, update your reel clips, and make sure your profiles reflect your most recent work. A polished presence can open the door to major opportunities.

Check Your Casting Sites
Treat your casting profiles like your social media: log in, clean up, and stay active. Make sure your stats, media, and contact info are accurate. Agents and casting directors notice who’s putting in the work.

Set Your Summer Goals
Whether it’s auditioning more, taking a class, or building your brand—set 1–2 goals to focus on this season. Summer is also a great time to try new looks or explore UGC (user-generated content) gigs for extra exposure and income.

Bonus Tip: Book the Busy Season
Fall is one of the biggest booking seasons in the industry. The work you do now helps you stay ready when the floodgates open—so use this time to sharpen your tools and stay camera-ready.
